East Tennessee State University (ETSU) graduate students do their clinicals in person, so the state you train in decides a lot: what ETSU's licensure disclosures say about it, whether its board allows your clinicals, and which RN license you need. What follows you across state lines
Three ETSU rules apply wherever you train. Three things hold everywhere: an unencumbered RN license for the state hosting your clinicals, a preceptor search you lead with the graduate clinical coordinator's help, and a contract in place before clinicals begin. Graduate placements outside Tennessee also need approval from the appropriate regulatory bodies and are reviewed case by case after admission.
ETSU publishes two licensure disclosures, one on the College of Nursing's program pages and one on the university's consumer information pages, and they disagree for 17 states. Can I study nursing online at ETSU from any state?
ETSU asks applicants outside Tennessee to confirm with their own board of nursing before applying, and it reviews graduate clinical placements outside Tennessee case by case. Its university consumer pages list 12 states where the MSN and DNP do not meet licensure requirements.
Why do ETSU's two state lists disagree?
The College of Nursing's program pages list 25 states as meeting requirements and 25 as not yet determined. The university's consumer information pages, updated separately, list 38 states as meeting and 12 as not. Hawaii and Maryland appear as meeting on one and not meeting on the other. Ask the College which applies to you.
Do LPN to BSN students do clinicals outside Tennessee?
No. ETSU's LPN to BSN page says clinical placements outside the state of Tennessee are not possible.
