Maine clinicals for ETSU's online nursing programs
If you live in Maine, East Tennessee State University (ETSU) lists your state as meeting licensure requirements on both of its disclosures. Maine's board has published nothing found on schools from other states training students here, so your planning centers on a Maine-valid RN license, a preceptor near Portland, Bangor, Lewiston-Auburn or your own rural town, and ETSU's own approval steps.

A quiet board, and ETSU's own steps
Maine's Board of Nursing regulates in-state prelicensure education through its Chapter 7 rule. Nothing in that rule, or anywhere on the Board's education pages, speaks to schools from other states placing their students in Maine, and no Maine filing for an ETSU graduate student turned up.
Quiet from the Board is not quiet from ETSU. A Maine rotation is treated like any site beyond Tennessee: the relevant regulatory bodies must approve it, the College judges it on its own after you are admitted, and a contract must exist before your first shift. Bring your Maine plans to the graduate clinical coordinator at the start of your search, not the week before the term.
Maine's licensing law exempts students only when their board-approved program leads to initial licensure. As a working RN in graduate study, train on a license Maine recognizes.
Full practice, after a two-year runway
AANP counts Maine as full practice, with one condition: an NP first completes a transition of at least 24 months, working under a physician or NP supervisor or on staff where a physician leads as medical director. The NPs you ask may therefore be early-career clinicians still under supervision or seasoned ones practicing on their own, and ETSU's clinical faculty weigh either against your course.
Portland-South Portland, the largest metro, is more than three times the size of Bangor, and Lewiston-Auburn is smaller still, so many Maine students search well outside any metro. Among Maine systems, MaineHealth and Northern Light Health sit next to MaineGeneral Health and Central Maine Healthcare, and each has its own student process.
Licensing for a Maine rotation
Maine's compact membership dates to January 2018, so a multistate RN license is valid at a Maine site. For ETSU's MSN, the RN license must be unencumbered and issued by Tennessee or by the state hosting your clinicals; the RN license page covers what to report and when. Maine has not adopted the APRN Compact, so licensure as an NP after graduation is its own step, handled with the Maine board directly.

Questions ETSU students ask
Is there a Maine filing ETSU has to make before my clinicals?
None was found. Maine's Chapter 7 rule governs the state's own prelicensure programs and says nothing about programs from elsewhere. On the ETSU side, your Maine site is judged on its own once you are admitted, and no clinical day happens until the site's contract is signed.
I'm moving to Maine partway through my ETSU program. Can I keep going?
You can, provided Maine's board permits it: ETSU lets a relocating student continue only with the new state board's blessing, and you owe both the College and the records office notice of the move. Maine's favorable listing on both disclosures helps, but confirm with the Maine board and read our page on moving mid-program first.
Can I take ETSU's LPN to BSN from Maine?
No. ETSU runs every LPN to BSN clinical inside Tennessee and rules out placements beyond it. For a Maine resident, the graduate programs are the ETSU options where an out-of-state rotation can even be considered, and each such rotation still gets its own review.
Where should a Maine student start looking for an NP preceptor?
Start close to home. Larger systems such as MaineHealth and Northern Light Health run their own student processes, so read their pages for how they treat outside programs, and ask smaller practices beyond the Portland, Bangor and Lewiston-Auburn areas too. Faculty then check the site's patient mix against your course.
